Объявление Грасса персоной нон-грата – это очередной раз поведение унтерофицерской вдовы, которая сама себя высекла; Израиль выходит из подобных историй с ненужным лишним моральным ущербом. По-крайней мере, подобные решения о невъезде должны приниматься в МИДе.

Задается традиционный вопрос: а не антисемитизм ли это? Критики в основном обрушились на стихотворение за вроде бы технически антиизраильскую направленность, но это цветочки, поскольку в этом отношении Грасс говорит в общем-то тривиальные вещи. Хуже другое.



Это стихотворение, насколько можно судить, не про израильтян, иранцев или палестинцев, и не для них; а о преодолении немцами вины за Холокост. Основной темой оказывается переступание немцем через чувство вины за Холокост ради детабуированного осуждения израильской военщины; или же, инвертируя, использования оного поверхностного осуждения израильского милитаризма для преодоления немецкой вины за Холокост.

А вот от этого уже несет вполне антисемитским душком. (Любопытно, однако, входило ли это в намерения автора!?)

I don't read it this way. I think it can be assumed that there were benonis in Sodom. With respect to them there would be a problem of innocent bystander; the question in Gen 22:23, imho, is not about it. The two translations I'm usually using differ a bit (mm/righteous, ort/inoocent). Translating tzaddikim as innocent makes a related moral problem into "лес рубят, щепки летят", but Abraham is asking about "throwing a baby with a bath water".

Suppose after the war the Allies were to use a radical remedy of banning German language altogether. One counterarguemnt would be why deprive Hans and Greta (innocent, benoni) of their language for the sins of the Nazis (wicked). Quite another is asking how could you ban the language of Goethe and Kant (tzaddikim, sort of, language-wise). I think Abraham is asking the second question.

I can only restate that IMHO there is no dilemma. Using a language corruption analogy (which somewhat differs from yours in that it is purely language-wise): if a society's language degenerated into Newspeak, and Hans & Greta managed to retain normal language, they are as good as Goethe & Kant.

Это удачный пример. Возьмем, чтобы далеко не ходить, наш собственный случай. После развала Союза русский язык качественно деградировал в России; эмигранты этому были несколько менее подвержены. На индивидуальном уровне действительно любой, кто managed to retain normal language, будучи обыкновенным носителем языка или же литературным светочем, are as good, в допушении что в этом примере норма языка - это моральная норма. Однако ситуация меняется, когда мы смотрим на народ в целом: есть шанс, что нормальный русский язык сохранится - благодаря Акунину и Быкову; но не ради безымянного обывателя лично. (При этом я притерживаюсь т.з. что культура создается читателем, но это несколько другой аспект.)

And so, returning to S./N.G., it my impression (from historical literature and some observations) that there were no innocent bystanders in Nazi Germany. (This does not mean that every one of them had an individual corpus delicti and should've been brought to justice.) However, Schlabrendorff (Treskow's survivor co-conspirator) divided all Germans into a big minority of "Nazis", a small minority of "anti-Nazis", and a majority of "non-Nazis." And he wrote that the last category was the most hopeless as potential recruits to the resistance. Though quite infrequently, the "Nazis" might be persuaded and recruited. Be it as it may have, the historians' consensus is that nearly all of them knew what was going on and most of them chose denial. But here we enter the area of collective responsibility and "collective freedom of will," in which I don't think we are ready to operate with confidence.
